JOB TITLE:                Tax Clerk, part time

 

DEPARTMENT:       Tax Office

 

DUTIES:

Provides technical and organizational support to the Tax Collector in the billing and collection of real estate, motor vehicle and personal property taxes as well as sewer assessment and sewer maintenance fees, and aircraft registration fees. Processes cash and check payments in QDS and Vision software. Prepares bank deposits and reconciles                                         same. Assists tax payers in person and on the phone. Processes mail, assists with all aspects of the tax office. Assumes responsibility for the Tax Office in the absence of the Tax Collector.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have strong customer service skills combined with impeccable math aptitude. Knowledge of bookkeeping and record keeping helpful. Proficiency in Word and Excel and the ability to follow strict office procedures. Ability to read, understand and explain Connecticut State Statues as they relate to tax collection. Willingness to complete and pass the first course of the Certified Connecticut Municipal Collector’s program (may involve travel time).

 

HOURS:                     Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (Monday through Friday in January and July)
