The Registrars of Voters Office Hours are most Tuesdays, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

Election Information

Next Election:  November 3, 2020  This is a State Election – offices include President, Representative in Congress, State Senator and State Representative. 

Polls will be open from 6AM – 8PM.  The polling place is Chester Town Hall, 203 Middlesex Ave.

Absentee Ballots for November 3, 2020:

All voters who are registered in Chester as of August 26, 2020 will be receiving an application for an absentee ballot from the Secretary of the State’s Office.  We anticipate them to be sent out around September 11.  Any resident who registers after August 26 will receive an application directly from the Town of Chester.  If you have not received an application or you have questions regarding the absentee ballot application please contact the Town Clerk.

Absentee ballots will become available and will start being mailed out on October 2, 2020.  They may be returned via USPS or the ballot drop box located outside of Town Hall.  The ballot drop box will be emptied regularly during the day and at the end of every business day.  Absentee ballots must be received by 8PM on November 3, 2020.  The drop box will be checked at 8PM on November 3 and then locked.

Voter Registration Requirements

To register in Connecticut, you must:

  • be a United States citizen
  • be a resident of a Connecticut town
  • be at least 17 years old (must turn 18 before election day)
  • have completed confinement and parole if previously convicted of a felony and have had your voting rights restored by Registrar

Voter registration cards are available at Town Hall, the Chester Public Library, the Department of Motor Vehicles, or online.

The deadline to register to vote for the November 3, 2020 election is October 27, 2020.  The exception is anyone whose qualifications as to age, citizenship or residence was attained after October 27; that deadline is 5PM November 2, 2020.

Election Day Registration (EDR) will be available on November 3.  EDR will take place at Town Hall from 6AM -8PM.  Residents who wish to register and vote will need to provide identification and proof of residential address.
